Sofia. Metropolitan Bishop Neofit of Ruse is the new Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, FOCUS News Agency reporter informed.
Metropolitan Bishop Neofit (with birth name Simeon Nikolov Dimitrov) was born on 15.10.1945 in Sofia. He became Metropolitan Bishop of Ruse in 2004.
He received his education in Sofia and Moscow. He took the monastic vows at the Troyan Monastery. Patriarch Maxim of Bulgaria personally ordained him as hieromonk in 1976. He used to be rector of the Theological Academy, secretary general of the Holy Synod, since 1994 he became Metropolitan Bishop of Dorostol and Cherven, while after the dismissal of the eparchy he became Metropolitan Bishop of Ruse.
