Economic agreements signed between Egypt and Greece have reached $1.6 bn

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi signed on Thursday a number of agreements with his Greek counterpart Prokopis Pavlopoulos in the economic, commercial and athletic domains.
In a press conference, the Egyptian president highlighted the strong ties between both countries that are due to their long history and diplomatic relations that date back four thousand years.
The commercial and economic development agreements between both countries have reached $1.6 bn, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.
During El-Sisi's meeting with Pavlopoulos, he stressed the importance of battling all kinds of terrorism that have been threatening the Middle East and Egypt.
Both presidents also discussed a number of issues related to Libya, Syria and other issues involving the Middle East.
Greece, a country located on the Mediterranean Sea, has been on the frontline of the ongoing crisis involving refugees fleeing their homeland and trying to reach Europe by boat via Libya.
On Monday, Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos met with President El-Sisi who discussed a number of issues including the regional and international refugee crisis, with a focus on Libya.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian president is expected to visit Greece on April 29.
Egypt and Greece enjoy good bilateral relations and the convergence of opinions on various regional and international issues, partly due to historical, geographic and cultural ties.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry website, the current number of Greek investment projects in Egypt is 104, which indicates a strong business relationship between both countries.
